Do-It-Yourself, Personalized Products That You Can Make Now!

Updated: Mar 29, 2020

I really wasn't planning on mentioning in this post about the world events and what they mean for us here locally, but here it is- Closings in NJ. Needless to say , it's always great to have some creative distractions and what I want to talk about in this post is making something that's custom made, and specifically a custom made tote! And you don't even have to leave home!

Print-On-Demand has become very popular over the past few years and if you have a basic knowledge of Photoshop or Pixelmator, the use of Printful's Mock up Generator should be a cinch!

The picture above is a bag that I sell in my Etsy shop, China Cat Vintage Books, and although my shop is mostly vintage, I like to do a little designing of my own products just for the fun of it (and for a little extra cash)!

You can even open your own Etsy or Shopify shop, design your product(s) with Printful and it won't cost you a dime! Can you say "passive income"? And who doesn't need that right now?

Ok, back to current events. If you are one of the many who's jobs have closed temporarily or are just playing it safe by staying in, Printful

is a nice way to banish the boredom and make either gifts that can be sent from Printful directly to the recipient or something for yourself or business at the same time.

Here are a few example to consider:

  • Grandparents gift. Make something cute for grandma or grandpa since having the grand kids around could be unsafe if they have the flu and don't have symptom. Does Grandma need a Bingo bag?

  • "I Miss You" or "Thinking of You" Tell someone you're thinking of them across the miles with a tote with a friendship quote or poem.

  • A bag with your business logo to use as a promotion or just for yourself to carry around your paperwork and stuff

  • Book bag for with your favorite book quote

  • Reusable grocery bag with some veggie Clip Art (try Graphics Fairy for great images)

  • Tote with your favorite classic painting (you can find Starry Night at RawPixel for free!)

  • Design some really cool Typography using Canva.

Here is an example of what I did on Canva. Make a custom size of 9.5" X 9.5" and the design will fit perfectly on this bag. Remember to save the design as a PNG. This can also be done in Photoshop the same way, but Canva is easier to use (at least I thing so) and has great fonts!

The news out there may be bad, but you can spread a little cheer with a thoughtful gift for someone else or just to pamper yourself. Be well.
